California State Standards & Assessment

Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In California, the California Department of Education (CDE) decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. The California Department of Education helps schools make sure that all students are meeting the standards.

At North Cow Creek, our School Board, in collaboration with the school staff, select curriculum and textbooks that align with the state standards as well as supporting the values and goals of our community. Listed below are the current adopted programs utilized at NCC. Staff are piloting a new Language Arts program in grades K-6 during the 2016/2017 school year with hopes of providing a recommendation for adoption in March, 2017.

NCC also participates in the online assessments required by CDE. Students in grades 3 - 8 take the Language Arts and Math online assessments. Students in grades 5 and 8 also take the pencil/paper Science tests. Students in grades 5 and 7 take the required physical fitness tests.
